The Gardens Expert Meeting at Het Loo Palace
- End January 2010, an international expert meeting took place at Het Loo Palace to draw lessons of the restoration of its gardens started in the 80's and its maintenance since then and to look at where to go in the future, especially at the enhancement of the lower garden.
- Het Loo Palace and its Gardens came to life at the call of a couple: William III, at first Stadtholder of the Netherlands and later King of England, and his wife Mary Stuart.
- His great grandfather, William the Silent, was the 16th century David fighting Goliath in Philip II of Spain, and became the founder of the Dutch Nation.
- Following this tradition, William III was the 17th century David fighting another Goliath in Louis XIV of France, and in this way saved his country.
- As the soul against France's hegemony, William turned out to be a key player in initiating the shift of power from the catholic crowns toward the protestant countries.
- This strategy bore its full fruit under the reign of his sister-in-law and successor, Queen Anne, when at Blenheim, the UK became a leading European power followed later by Hanover and Prussia.
