The Dutch Flag on the top of Het Loo Palace
-
Het Loo is an extraordinary example of what we ought to the Netherlands as expressed by Raymond Cartier in his book,
Les dix-neuf Europes (Plon 1960):
-
No other countries has given so much to the world with respect to the size of its population.
-
And it all started in 1568 by a poem and a song, expressing the fight for freedom:
-
William of Nassau, am I of German descent.
True to the fatherland, I'll be until death.
A prince of Orange, am I free and brave.
The king of Spain, I have always honored.
-
My shield and reliance are you, o God my Lord.
It is you on whom I want to rely, never leave me again.
Grant that I may remain brave, your servant for always,
and may defeat the tyranny, which pierces my heart.
